An Intern's Journal: Conclusion
by Mariola Lezcano - August 25, 2009
This is my final post for JobsintheMoney as a KPMG intern. These two months have gone by so quickly. It seems like yesterday when I was still trying to get my work visa so I could go to Milan for KPMG’s global internship program.

My last week in Milan was the most fun of all. I was already comfortable with my team, my client, and the work I was doing. I was also used to my team’s particular work method. And I had made many friends both in and out of work. I was getting along with my team so well, it made me sad to think I would have to say goodbye by the end of the week.

One of my teammates invited me to the beach on my final weekend. We went to a beautiful beach in a region called Liguria, a one and a half hour drive from Milan. In one day I got to see a part of Italy I hadn’t seen before. I spent the whole day hanging out with Italians and learning about their jobs, interests, families, and culture, and practicing my Italian in a more casual environment.

My Next Steps

While I felt sad leaving Milan, once I arrived at the office in New York, I felt good to be back. I was excited to meet up with my mentor, recruiters, the senior at my New York engagement, and other interns. It was good to see everyone and tell them in person about my experience in Milan. In my exit interview we talked about all the things I learned during my two months as an intern, and how I felt I had become a better professional.

A few days have passed since my exit interview and my last day as a KPMG summer intern. I am happy and excited to report I got a full-time offer to start as a KPMG associate in the fall of 2010.

I wish all of you the best of luck while looking for your internship, and hopefully you will have as good as an experience as I had with KPMG!
